How to give your home street appeal

There is a saying that you only get one chance to make a first impression. It’s especially true when selling your home. Buyers make split second judgments on your property as arrive, so making sure your home has street appeal is vital. Here’s 5 ways to wow buyers as they pull up at the front of your home.

Finesse your fence

Give your fence a good hose off and cut back any trees or bushes that are overhanging or making it look messy. Does it need a paint, do palings need to be replaced or are there patches that require a re-render? Make sure your gate works easily and consider replacing latches if they’re sticking.

Lead them up the garden path

Cracked, broken or weed-ridden paths can be a real turn off for buyers so repair, replace and rectify as needed. Pressure hose paths and driveways to get rid of caked on grime, grease or mould and you’ll be amazed at the difference.

Get gardening

A weed is anything growing in the wrong spot! Now is the time to be ruthless in the garden, cutting back trees and shrubs that have grown in front of windows, or overhanging paths. Whipper snipper and tidy garden edging, which should also be assessed for repairs or replacing. Pull out any struggling plants and replace with some massed plantings. Create a smart finish by putting down a natural coloured mulch woodchips.

Create some sparkle

Consider hiring or buying a pressure hose and giving your house a good wash down. This will remove the built up grime and cobwebs of decades and really give your home some sparkle. If you have a two storey house and/or a roof with mould or lichen, consider getting a professional building washer in. You’ll be amazed at the difference.

Make an entrance

It can be as simple as giving your door a fresh lick of paint or putting a smart new door handle on to brighten up its appearance. If your front door is visible from the street, consider a bold colour to really make a statement. Consider too adding some smart pots and shrubs to dress the entrance and throw out the old door mat and buy a smart new one.
