Easy way to remove grease from kitchen cabinets

When preparing your home for sale, there’s probably no more important focal point than the bathrooms and the kitchen.

Sometimes, a little regrouting around the taps works wonders from an aesthetic perspective. Transparent and white silicone will often turn black with continued exposure to water. If you attempt to do the job yourself, don’t neglect to dig out all the old blackened grout or silicone before replacing it.

Another troubled area are cupboards around the cooktop. Removing splashes of grease can be difficult if you have wooden cabinets.

The challenge is to eradicate the grease without damaging the wood surface of the cabinet doors.

There’s no doubt regular cleaning and vigilance with quick spills and splashes will minimise the issue of grease on your cabinets.

However, if you’ve been in your home several years and you’re ready to sell, you want the kitchen looking its very best.

Here is an excellent way to approach this cleaning task:

Quick warning – Let’s start with telling you what you shouldn’t do! Do not over-wet the wood with any cleaning solution. This risks making it expand, split or crack the varnished surface.

Get the tools – You’ll want dishwashing liquid, vinegar, spray bottle, and a duster and microfibre cloth.

Dust buster – Remove all the dust and specks of grime that might be sticking loosely to your kitchen doors.

Right mix – Pour into your spray bottle equal parts of cool water and distilled white vinegar, which can be bought at any supermarket. If you have a lot of grease on the cabinet surfaces, add a tiny bit of dishwashing liquid. Be sure to give the mixture a good shake.

60-second rule – Spray a mist of the solution on the doors. Again, don’t soak the surfaces, it won’t make getting the grease off any easier. Also, you might damage the finish of the cabinets. If the solution is dripping off the doors, you’re using too much. Wipe it off and start again. Let the mist stay on the doors for one minute.

Wipe down – Use the microfibre cloth to wipe away the grease. Pay attention to how much grease is collected on the cloth. You need to always use a clean part of the cloth or you’ll simply spread the grease.
