If you’re preparing to sell your home, never underestimate the impact of a quality rug to give rooms an extra lift in the eyes of the buyer.
More than floor coverings, a good rug is a piece of art, adding personality and warmth to any room. However, it’s important they are well maintained, or they could be a turn-off for potential buyers.
Our agents will often highlight to clients why it’s important to ensure the very best presentation of your home.
And when it comes to rugs, be aware dust mites, mould, bacteria, and other allergens can accumulate in the fibres, triggering allergies, asthma attacks, skin irritations and even stomach issues.
You don’t always need to take your rug to a specialist cleaner. We’ve got six tips to keep your rugs free of “nasties” using a vinegar solution.
- Vacuum the rug on both sides to remove loose dirt and debris.
- Prepare a 1:3 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
- Work in sections.
- Lightly mist the rug with the solution until it’s damp.
- Blot and dry the solution with a microfibre cloth. Always work in the direction of the rug fibres.
- Ensure it’s completely dry before putting it back on the wooden floor or carpet.
Our agents have added five bonus tips for how to maintain your rugs. We hope you find them helpful.
In the meantime, if you’re considering selling your home in the near future, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can discuss price trends, buyer preferences and marketing strategies to maximise the value of your home.
Here are our bonus rug tips!
- Mix and match – Combine rugs of different sizes, textures and patterns to create visual interest and define different areas within a room.
- The right size – Make sure your rug is appropriately sized for the furniture. A rug that’s too small can make a room feel disjointed.
- Be playful – Don’t be afraid to use bold colours and patterns in your rugs to create a focal point.
- In a spin – Rotate your rugs periodically to ensure even wear and prevent fading from sunlight.
- Soft touch – Consider using rug pads to provide cushioning, prevent slipping and extend the life of your rugs.
