5 hot décor trends for your home in 2022

Whether you’ve just moved into a new home, are preparing to put your property on the market, or want to freshen up the place after staring at the walls during the pandemic, finding time to redecorate is expected to be a big priority for many of us in 2022.

To inspire your thinking, here are five of the hottest ideas of the past 12 months that are leading us into 2022.

Wicker world

Whether you’re dressing the porch or seeking luxury in the living room, wicker has become the go-to material for the modern home. Wicker chairs on your deck and a rattan daybed in the main living area provide great accents for your home because they are light and airy. Avoid heavy-looking, 80s-style furniture. According to Vogue, the boxy sofa look is now completely out.

Olive love

Green paint has increasingly been the “it” color, and olive accents have become a great companion in modern living areas. This combination is especially striking if you have wall panelling or mouldings. It’s a reflection of our desire for more natural and earthy tones that connect us with the outdoors.

Paper tigers

Wallpaper is back in a big way, especially in bedrooms. This year, designers have turned their back on the minimalist approach. We’re seeing the return of patterned floral wallpapers, heavy curtains and gilded mirrors. Done correctly the effect can be stunning. (But if you’re unsure get professional help as overdone it can be a catastrophe).

Depth charge

There’s been a big rush towards creating a visual depth to doors and walls. Mouldings can transform bland rooms into spaces of fascination. Crown mouldings highlight lights while ceilings of pressed metal offer another point of interest.

Back in black

Appliances and fixtures in black are red-hot. This has been a huge trend for kitchens this year. Matching your taps to your black appliances makes a fantastic impact. Stainless steel is so very pre-2020.
