If you’re looking for quick and easy DIY projects over the next few weekends, I’ve got a few ideas that will make a difference to your home.
There’s never any shortage of work around the house, but my suggestions are designed to lift your spirits.
And if you are considering undertaking any major projects, let me know. As your local real estate agent, I’d be happy to make recommendations on remodeling upgrades that will increase the value of your home.
In my work, I meet many prospective buyers in our neighborhood and understand what they value and what they don’t, so feel free to contact me to discuss this further.
In the meantime, here are four low-cost projects that will make your home more appealing:
- Stroke of genius – Take a brush and roller, and transform a room with a single coat of paint. If you intend to sell in the short- to medium-term, then use neutral colors as they make spaces lighter and brighter. But if you’re staying put and fancy a brightly coloured feature wall, then there’s nothing stopping you!
- Light up your life – Swapping out old lighting fixtures can be a simple task if they are a batten fix. If your home is more than ten years old, then your lights are probably due for an update. New lamps around the home will also create a lovely evening ambience. But please, don’t attempt work that should be done by a professional electrician. Some light fittings require an electrician to install so check before you buy.
- Take time for some reflection – Updating your mirrors can transform bathrooms, living areas and even your outdoor entertaining area. Mirrors magnify light and make rooms feel more substantial. If you combine this with your new lighting set up, you’ll be amazed at the improvement.
- Don’t be left on the shelf – Storage is a challenge in most homes. Thankfully, open shelving is back in fashion to help solve this issue. Go to a hardware store and choose from a variety of shelving solutions. A favorite is a floating shelf, but don’t load it up. Most will not take a weight of more than 20lbs. They’re great in the bathroom, mudroom and laundry areas or as a small feature in a bedroom.
