Colours to avoid in 2024 renovations

If repainting your home is a promise to yourself this year, then you should be aware of six colours that interior designers say are going out of style.

Painting the interior of your home is one of the cheapest and most effective renovations to prepare for a sale, and your choice of colour scheme will make a significant impression on buyers.

Painting will also allow you to fix the knocks and bumps your walls and skirtings endure as part of everyday living.

Importantly, do not repaint the interior just before you put the property on the market as you will want the paint fumes to have dispersed first.

Check out this list of colours that designers say are going out of fashion.

Red

It’s a big and bold colour but far from ideal when preparing your home for sale. Even if you have no intention of moving, designers say that red has had its time in the sun.

Orange

Avoid orange at all costs. The tip from designers is not so much that it’s going out of style, as orange should never be in style. If you love the colour, consider turning down the dial and opting for a creamy peach.

Pink

Do we blame Barbie for the 2023 popularity of pink? Designers say that pink is for a kid’s room and nowhere else. However, if you’re selling your home and repainting, it’s best to replace pink with a neutral colour, such as off-white or cream.

Brilliant white

The stark nature of pure white is too much in today’s property fashion stakes. Interior designers embrace earth tones that evoke nature to create a bond between the inside of your home and your garden. Brilliant white is the opposite of this approach.

Grey

Grey has been the “it” colour for a couple of years now, especially when paired with hues of blue. But like every fashion trend, grey comes and goes. Right now, it’s heading for the exit. Interior designers say people are bored with grey.
