Emerging trends for creating designer kitchen

Few rooms show their age more than your kitchen.

And a high-quality, modern kitchen can add at least 10% to your asking price.

Together with the bathroom, the kitchen is one of the most influential rooms when trying to attract prospective buyers to bid.

A great kitchen is more than the European appliances, although these have a positive influence.

It needs to be well-planned and practical, and be an attractive space to encourage the family and friends to gather.

At the core of a good kitchen is the so-called “triangle”: the positioned shape of your sink, oven, and fridge. Never put one of these features next to the other. It’s a basic rule of kitchen design.

These are some emerging kitchen trends for 2024.

Function

During the past few years, much attention has been placed on how a kitchen looks. Hiding gadgets and tins has been at the core of this advice. However, in 2024 we can expect designers to double-down on function. Watch out for recommendations for additional storage, quieter appliances and even a beverage station.

Storage smarts

Concealing gadgets such as coffee makers, blenders and kettles are still at the top of the priority list for kitchen designers. But you need somewhere to put them. So, expect increasingly clever storage solutions to become available.

Dramatic farewell

The use of big colours for kitchens is over. No big reds or heavy blues for 2024. Instead there will be the adoption of calmer colours, such as rich browns and gentle light greens.

Island stunner

Big islands and oversized benchtops will be a key feature of this year’s kitchen designs. Waterfall edges will be a popular choice, and you may see the return of eating nooks because they’re so practical.

Splashback hack

All-glass splashbacks may take a back seat. Designers say they will favour using stone slabs behind the stove and wall-based exhaust fans to give the kitchen a more visual texture.

Wood returns

Natural wood cabinetry is back with a vengeance. Many owners are said to be tired of the featureless all-white approach to doors and drawers. In 2024, they’ll be replaced by warmer palettes and natural wood.
