Are you ready to turn your dream home into a Halloween nightmare!
On the evening of October 30th, you can trade in your pristine curb appeal for something spooky.
That’s right, Halloween is just around the corner!
It’s the perfect time to turn your beautiful home into the spookiest stop on the block.
I’ve got lots of tips for how to prepare your home, but let’s remind ourselves about what Halloween is all about.
Its name is short for All Hallows’ Eve. The night is rooted in ancient harvest festivals and the tradition of honoring the dead.
It’s a night when the veil between our world and the spirit world is believed to be thinnest. Over time, it has evolved into a fun, festive evening – a chance to dress up in creative costumes, tell scary stories, and, of course, celebrate with trick-or-treating.
It’s a true American tradition now, creating fantastic community memories and, for one night, letting us all embrace a deliciously dark and silly side of life.
Here are some super-scary tips to help you transform your dream home into the ultimate neighborhood nightmare and attract a swarm of happy trick-or-treaters!
Don’t go crazy! – Make a plan of where and how you’d like to decorate, and then shop with focus. Stores like Target, Home Depot, your local craft store and dollar shops all have incredible Halloween props that won’t blow your budget.
One theme only – Avoid scattering zombies, vampires and ghouls all over your front yard. Choose one direction. Perhaps that’s a terrifying graveyard, a haunted carnival, or a creepy swamp. Execute your theme relentlessly for the greatest impact.
Scary sounds – Stream some super-creepy soundtracks and play them on repeat over a Bluetooth speaker hidden in the yard. Spotify and Apple Music have tracks like “Scary Clown Laughing” and “Evil Girl” that are pure freak-out fuel. YouTube also has tracks that run for more than an hour.
Lights, Terror, Action! – Invest in striplights with a remote control or app to manage the colors and brightness. Use deep reds, purples and smoky greens. Make your home look mysteriously shadowed to creep out the neighbors’ kids (in a fun way!).
