Celebrities have been making real estate headlines with more high-profile luxury sales, and a luxury apartment featuring in a music video.
Superstar singer and actor Jennifer Lopez has finally sold her New York penthouse for $23 million.
She and her husband, the actor and producer/writer Ben Afleck, recently put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $68 million. They bought the 38,000-square-foot pile for $60.8 million a little more than 12 months ago. Their asking price today demonstrates just how strong the super-lux market continues to be in Los Angeles.
Lopez’s NYC apartment is in the fast-gentrifying area of NoMad on Manhatten. The neighborhood has many luxury condo buildings that are surrounded by wholesale stores on Broadway and a number of upmarket hotels.
She bought the property back in 2014 for $20 million. While she has made a tidy profit, the price does not reflect some of the value growth we’ve seen in the luxury market. The New York Post said her original asking price was almost $25 million. It has six bedrooms on two levels.
Meanwhile, troubled actor Kevin Spacey has sold his waterfront Baltimore home for $3.2 million, according to newspaper reports. The Baltimore Sun said he bought the property while starring in the Netflix drama, House of Cards.
The property has five levels and is situated at the end of a pier in the gated Pier Homes community.
It is understood the sale was distressed as Spacey said on TV recently his home was being “foreclosed and sold at auction” due to his financial challenges.
Back in New York, superstar Beyonce has filmed a video for “Halo” in a five-story New York townhouse that at one stage was the most expensive home on realtor.com.
