Items wasting space in your garage

It’s amazing how your garage accumulates personal belongings and the leftovers of DIY projects during the summer months.

One moment, you have an easy drive into your garage, and the next, your car sensors are beeping like crazy to stop you from running into old paint cans or a set of golf clubs.

A clean and well-organized garage encourages good storage behavior, stopping you from making it a dumping ground for everything that does not have its own place.

A clean garage with great storage solutions has a positive impact on buyers.

Storage is one of the unsung heroes of a home. Buyers look at this aspect of a house or apartment very carefully. They want to see plentiful storage space in the kitchen, laundry, bathroom and garage.

So, if you’re considering selling in the next few months and your garage is a mess, these are some items you should consider recycling or throwing away.

Useless tools

We’ve all bought tools that were either not up to the job, or we used them once and never needed them again. We are also prone to purchasing multiples of the same tool. How many hammers do you need in your life? Audit your toolbox and either give away or donate to charity those you don’t need.

Bats, balls and toys

The garage is the obvious storage destination for all things sports. But how much of this equipment is used? Sporting goods take up a lot of space, so it’s a good idea to check if there is any equipment that is no longer used or wanted.

Can the cans

Let’s bite the bullet and throw out all the old pots of paint and old spray cans that haven’t been used in months, if not years. You may need to take them to an appropriate site to dispense with them.

Old rags

It’s funny how you can never find a rag when you need one. But the truth is, they’re usually scattered all over the garage. Throw out your old rags. If you have rags soaked in petrol or another flammable liquid, they’re a fire danger.

Chemical chaos

Most garages have a dark corner that hides tins and cans of unused and old chemicals. Motor oil, liquid fertilizer and pesticides for the garden will be favorites on this list. Chemicals do expire, so maybe it’s time to take them to the local waste disposal center.

Tinseltown

How many boxes of holiday decorations are hidden in your garage, taking up valuable space and getting only minimal use? Go through these boxes, and let go of the tired, old decorations.
