Seven tasks to welcome winter

It’s incredible to think Thanksgiving and the Holidays are just around the corner.

It only seemed a few weeks ago that we were enjoying the warm days of summer. But with winter on the way, it’s time to double down at home and prepare for colder days.

Now is a perfect time of year to give your home a spruce up and deep clean, so these recommendations will help you finish your chores quickly and easily.

Be strategic

Don’t try to clean your entire home at once. Take it room by room, otherwise the task may seem too large and time-consuming to bother with. If you’re in a house, start upstairs with the bedrooms and work your way down.

Recruitment drive

Get the whole family to pitch in. Persuade the kids to take some responsibility for their bedrooms. Encourage them to throw out unused or unwanted toys and other personal belongings.

Rug up

Focus one cleaning session on the rugs. Vacuum and shake out those that can’t be washed.

Corner capers

Spend some time dedicated to the dark corners of your home that collect dust and spider webs. Use a strip mop or microfiber cloth to clean moldings and kick-boards.

Appliances

Take the opportunity to clean the oven and fridge, and even shake crumbs from the toaster. You’ll be surprised how you can brighten your dishwasher and washing machine with a little cleaning solution and elbow grease.

Filter fix

It’s the ideal time to change your HVAC filters and vacuum the lint catcher in your dryer. If lint is left unchecked, it can be a fire danger, so that’s an important task to complete.

Kitchen capers

Throw out unwanted or “dead” containers and utensils. Expired food, old canned foods and spices should see the inside of the trash can. Don’t forget to make a shopping list of everything that needs to be replaced.
