Avoid these five paint colours that are so yesterday!

Paint colour fashions can change with the wind as interior designers convince us of what’s hot and what’s not.

It’s easy to dismiss influencers who try to persuade us to decorate in a particular style or colour, but keeping up with the times is an important part of preparing your home when you decide it’s time to sell.

Repainting your home is one of the most effective ways to make an improvement before selling.

It gives your home a fresh feel and hides the inevitable scratches, knocks and bumps that appear over the years. So, it’s a great investment to help maximise the value of your property.

This year, several colours are the height of fashion: light green hues, raspberry, black and shades of turquoise.

For every new colour that comes into fashion, another moves to the outer.

Below, we’ve listed the paints going out of style this year, according to the American home site “Real Simple”.

If you’re about to break out the brushes in your home, we hope you find this list helpful.

50 Shades

Grey is being shown the door after being a colour of choice for more than a decade. Designers say grey has become boring – think about that! Instead, they recommend contrasting colour combinations, and grey is just too meh!

White-out

Rather than being dull, white is now decried as sterile. In truth, agents love white because it makes rooms feel larger, which is a significant asset when selling. Designers say we should embrace more earthy tones with hints of tan, ochre, and light greens and blues. We’re going to confess we’re not entirely convinced on this one!

Ugly in pink

This is another colour that has spent several years on the fashion parade. Today, designers say that while pink hues can look stunning in photography, pink-dominated interiors are hard to live with. Someone needs to tell Barbie.

Red end

Even though raspberry is a 2023 favourite, designers are moving away from red feature walls and kitchen backsplashes. They say clients want interiors where the colour flows instead of being punctuated by feature walls of splashy colour.

Got the blues – With accent walls off-trend, it’s no surprise dark blues and saturated greens are now being rejected as totally yesterday too.
