Plants to make your apartment eco-friendly

Indoor plants are fashionable again, but choosing the best ones for your apartment can be tricky.

Strategically placing greenery around an apartment can make a fantastic impression on buyers: plants soften the edges and breathe extra life into a home.

We all love those beautiful magazine photos of lush vegetation breaking up bleak bathroom tiles and kitchen shelves, but how easy is it to achieve that look?

Which plants should you purchase, and how difficult will it be to look after them?

Try these ideas for indoor plants.

Peace Lilies

Easy to grow and maintain, they thrive in partial shade and don’t need direct sunlight. Their leaves droop when they need water, so it’s pretty easy to know when they’re thirsty. You have several varieties and sizes to choose from.

ZZ tops

The Zamioculcas Zamiifolia is top of the list for many interior designers because they love this plant’s deep green and waxy leaves. It’s a slower grower, loves filtered light and is a tough plant to kill.

Snake Plants

Despite its name, this is a favorite as they grow slowly and are self-sufficient. They can handle direct or filtered light equally well. They’re perfect on shelves, offering a lovely green touch without being overly intrusive.

Fern finery

This is a classic in bathrooms, offering a gorgeous green focus against a backdrop of tiles, glass and mirrors. Ferns will make a favorable impression in almost every room. They are not quick growers, so you’re safe to buy size-appropriate plants ahead of a sale. They do best in moist but not overly-wet soil.

Pothos

Another shade lover, the Pathos is a classic choice if you’re looking for a vine that will cascade down a shelving unit or hang from the ceiling. It’s an absolute winner if you’ve got high ceilings.

Be judicious

Don’t get carried away. Less is best when it comes to indoor plants. Avoid creating your own personal jungle!
