Choosing the right pot for your garden

As the weather starts to warm up, many people turn their attention to their gardens, and planting flowers and vegetables.

Using planter pots is one way to add some visual interest. Available in a variety of materials, shapes, and sizes, they are a versatile and fun addition to any garden.

When grouping pots in your garden, consider using different sizes and shapes to add interest. Place taller pots at the back of the group, and smaller pots in front. Try to also group together plants with similar watering and sunlight needs.

This list of pot options may help you get started:

Terracotta

These pots are made from unglazed clay and are porous, which allows for good airflow to the roots of the plants.

Ceramic

Often glazed, ceramic pots are more durable and waterproof than terracotta pots. They also come in a wide variety of colors and styles.

Metal

A great choice for a modern or industrial look in your garden, they are available in a variety of metals such as copper, stainless steel, and galvanized metal.

Plastic

A lightweight, durable, and inexpensive option for annuals and vegetables.

Wooden

These pots are a great choice for a rustic or natural look in your garden. They come in a variety of woods such as cedar, teak, and redwood.
