Luxury ideas for when buyers come knocking

We all love a great TV show, and it might not surprise you that one of my favorites is “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles”.

I can get hooked by a good dose of TV reality. Additionally, LA is a great city, and I love real estate, so this show ticks all my boxes.

There’s a lot to learn from the show for owners looking to upgrade their property before a sale, but you do have to ignore the agent dramas and focus on the real estate.

Some of the remodels are spectacular and way beyond what might be appropriate for your typical family home.

Yet, nestled among the gold faucets, marble staircases and pool fountains are some great ideas you can use to add value to your home.

Call in color experts

Not everyone is sufficiently creative to be able to use color. If you count yourself among those folks, hire an interior designer or color consultant to give your home an amazing color scheme.

Be smart

Technology is a must-have in a luxury home. Focus on smart home tech so you can drop blinds with the click of a button and automate heating, cooling and mood lighting. A high-tech security solution is another essential.

Light it up

Lighting consultants can transform your home. Spotlights over kitchen work areas, pendants above the dining table and halogens on dimmer switches make a fantastic difference. Combined with smart home technology and … wow!

Step it up

A stunning staircase turns heads. It’s worth spending a little extra on the design and materials to make a statement that enhances the entire home.

Quality fixtures

Well-regarded brands in the kitchen and bathroom are a drawcard. Go the extra mile with European appliances in the kitchen and a standalone bath, maybe with claw feet. Buyers go crazy for them.

Go carpet-free

Wooden and tiled flooring are hallmarks of a modern, luxury home. Carpet can be a challenge. Some buyers may not like the pattern or style, while others will complain carpet traps dust and dirt and is unhealthy.

Big art

Large pieces of art scream luxe. Committing to one major work, rather than lots of small ones, makes a big luxe statement. Combined with a modern color scheme, your home would be stunning.
