Five finishing touches to impress buyers

Selling your home takes time to plan, it’s not just about organising your preferred agent and solicitor, and perhaps refinancing for your next property.

To maximise the value of your home (and who doesn’t want to do that?) you also need to think carefully about potential renovations and aesthetic improvements.

We’ve outlined five simple finishing touches to add extra appeal:

Flower power

Flowers and indoor plants add an extra dimension to every property. Vases of blooms in the dining area and kitchen work wonders during Open Houses and private inspections. The greenery of a fern in a pot or hanging basket in the bathroom will also break up the usual tile and glass.

A true highlight

If you’re lucky enough to have high ceilings, especially in the living room, you can accentuate this feature by hanging a plant from the ceiling. It adds a beautiful and surprising accent to the room.

Blank canvas

Empty walls can make a home unappealing. Artwork or a mirror will make a room warm and welcoming. Don’t overload your home but do just enough to create a highlight for each room.

Tell a story

To add interest to a shelf, mantelpiece or side table in the hallway, create a vignette of objects d’art. Perhaps you can use the wares you picked up on holiday? Whatever story you wish to tell, it will create a point of interest as buyers walk through your home.

Book nook

You should never fill your storage areas when selling. You want to give the impression you have more than adequate space. This is true of your bookshelves, too. Get rid of the tatty, old paperbacks and stack your hardcovers in interesting ways.
