When prospective buyers walk through a property for the first time, it’s not unusual to watch them open every kitchen cupboard and drawer and inspect what’s inside.
Even as an experienced agent, I’m often surprised by and delighted at the positive reaction that a well-organized kitchen solicits from buyers.
Neatly-stacked Tupperware seems to get you a big tick in the box. Of course, what the buyer actually sees is a wonderfully laid-out kitchen in their lives.
When you can ignite that emotional response, you know you’ll find a buyer quickly – and for a great price.
Organized kitchens do not happen by accident, however. And if you’re considering selling or preparing to put your home on the market, I can offer a few tips for enhancing your kitchen.
And remember, the kitchen is the most influential area of the home when seeking a buyer. It’s the place where the family gathers and memories are made, so please don’t underestimate its potential impact.
If I can assist you in selling your current property or help you find the next home of your dreams, please do not hesitate to contact me. In the meantime, I hope you find my list helpful.
Cut the clutter
Don’t store anything that’s not used or needed. Anything from old oven dishes and ancient spices to chipped coffee mugs should get their marching orders.
Send packaging packing
When you return from the supermarket, dispose of or recycle all the packaging you can. Items that should go straight into airtight containers include cereal, rice, sugar and flour.
Beauty and quality
Sometimes, it’s worth spending just a little more money to have quality containers that look good. Check out the options online and see what inspires you.
Max-out the space
Wall cupboards can be tall and thin. They look best when not half empty. Insert shelves or store tall items to maximize the available space.
Be logical
Keep cups and cutlery within easy reach because you always use them. Don’t put heavy pots on a high shelf because bringing them down could be dangerous.
Workflow
It makes sense to keep cups and saucers by the kettle. The toaster should be nearby, too, for the breakfast rush. The bottom line is to group items for specific meals or purposes, where possible.
Tidy countertops
It’s the fashion for countertops to be free of toasters, slow cookers and other electronic gadgetry. It’s a great idea when buyers walk through your home. Your kitchen will look less cluttered.
