With summer in full swing, it’s a great time to see which projects around the home you can complete before the first chill winds of fall arrive.
As a local real estate agent, I don’t advocate that any homeowner spend their entire summer with a hammer and bag of nails – that’s way too boring.
You need downtime: enjoy some ice-cold drinks on the deck, or rack up some hours on the beach or at the pool. I totally get it.
However, summer provides a great opportunity to continue to enhance your home and increase its value. Thousands of Americans seem to think so, given the results of a recent survey by the property services website, Thumbtack.
These guys have scoured their data to discover the summer’s most popular home improvements. I thought it would be cool to share it, and maybe inspire you before the crisp autumn evenings set in.
Below, I’ve listed some of the most popular improvements.
And if you’re considering selling your home in the late summer or fall, I’d love to talk with you. Our neighborhood has a vibrant property scene at the moment, and you can capitalize on the amazing double-digit growth we’ve seen in the past two years.
Okay, here’s my list from Thumbtack:
Landscaping
Perhaps inevitably because it’s summer, folks have been spending big on fencing, entertaining areas and tree-trimming. Gazebos and play equipment installations have been off the charts, registering 300% plus spending increases, according to Thumbtack.
Bathroom upgrades
There are not too many projects around the home that deliver a better return when it’s time to sell. There’s something really special about a great bathroom. Even moderate improvements can make you feel pampered, just like you’re staying in a hotel.
Brushing up
With everyone outside enjoying the summer warmth, there’s no better time to paint the interior of your home. Painting is a relatively inexpensive project that delivers a great return on investment when selling. Exterior facelifts have also been popular this summer.
Other jobs
Many smaller enhancements feature in the Thumbtack survey. These include new tiling, flooring, internal lighting, fan installations and wall-mounting TVs.
