Quick tips to revitalise your garden

There’s one quick and easy way to revitalise the appearance of your garden and reduce the workload of maintaining it at its best during the sale period – and that’s mulch.

Mulching gives your garden a ‘finished’ appearance and makes everything look neat and tidy. Pull out the weeds first, and you’ll enjoy a weed-free appearance for the length of your sales campaign.

It’s also cheap and affordable and has some other great benefits:

1.      Mulch adds organic materials to your soil and reduces the chance of pests and disease affecting your plants. Your plants will immediately brighten up. Nutrients from the mulch are released slowly, which continually feeds your plants to keep them healthy.

2.      With a 10cm layer of mulch on your flowerbeds, you will ensure moisture and existing nutrients are retained in the soil ensuring they look fantastic all through your sales period and the weeds are kept at bay.

3.      Choose from a range of colours and textures including wood chips, straws or blended materials. Go with something neutral that will look clean and tidy and complement rather than compete with the colour of your home.

4.      If you buy new plants, especially if they’re young, then the mulch will protect their root systems from heat and direct sunlight. Mulch will also ensure the soil doesn’t heat up, which can kill plants.

5.      Mulching means you can keep watering to a minimum. It will allow you to water extensively every two weeks as this will encourage plant root systems to seek water sources and grow.

6.      If your garden has a clay or sand-based soil, mulch will improve the quality of the garden beds over the medium to long-term. It also prevents the soil from compacting as worms and insects love mulch, and they will improve the soil around your plants.
