Covid-19 NSW Update: Open house restrictions eased

Open houses and on-site auctions – staples of the sales and marketing process for properties – are back in business in NSW.

From the weekend of May 9, you will be able to attend an open house, an auction held on the site of the property, and inspect a property for rent.

The move by the NSW Government comes as it is also said to be considering changes to stamp duty.

As your agent, we recommend you contact us to discuss how these eased restrictions might alter either your current marketing plan or how they might accelerate your decision to put your property on to the market.

While the eased restrictions put no limit on the number of people allowed to attend either an open house, inspection or an auction, physical distancing of 1.5 metres must be maintained.

Our agents will strenuously enforce this rule.

If any open house appears to risk compromising the distancing rule, we will ask prospective buyers to wait outside until others leave. Similar policing of numbers will be conducted inside the house so people do not gather in confined spaces.

Further, we will provide hand sanitiser for those entering the property and request that no items, including door handles or kitchen drawers, are touched. We’ll take a full list of people who attends your property and organise a thorough cleaning afterwards.

Safety is our priority. Please call us to find out the full list of safety measures we will be taking on your behalf.

The new government guidelines are listed as:

  • Ensure physical distancing of greater than 1.5m is maintained.
  • Promote good hygiene on-premises and at auctions, including hand sanitiser,
  • Keep detailed contact records of people attending open homes and auctions.
  • Ensure people with any symptoms of illness do not attend a property.
  • Manage the number of people entering small spaces.
  • Consider extended times for open house viewings and inspections.
  • Use outdoor venues for auctions wherever possible.
  • If auctions are held indoors, use large venues where physical distancing between household groups of one person per four square metres is possible.
